I am a Clinical Psychologist licensed by the state of California (license number PSY23220). I received my doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology where I studied a holistic, positive way of working in therapeutic relationships.
My approach to psychotherapy is continually evolving, but it is a relationship-based approach rooted in existential-humanistic, transpersonal, psychodynamic and contemporary psychoanalytic theories. These theories represent a set of ideas and models about human behavior and motivations derived from the experience of the present moment, patterns of behavior, actual clinical experience and the study of human development. As appropriate, I also make use of cognitive, behavioral, family systems and solution-focused interventions.
Psychotherapy is not just about gaining new understandings and new awareness, it is also about having a different kind of experience of yourself, your life, and of relationships. This experiential component is an integral and powerful part of the therapy process. It involves making use of the therapeutic relationship itself as a vehicle for exploration, as a nurturing context within which to confront yourself more honestly and openly, and as a place to begin experimenting with new ways of being and relating.
